Hi! My name is Cecil, I am of no one particularly special. No big last name, family, or origin. I worked on a farm, tended to an old apothecary, and lived life as a servant. I was well cared for. I was never starved, beaten, or abused. I tended to an old crone who bought me to help her tend to her apothecary and home. A kingdom in which people appear cold, but huddle close for warmth. I… got into a spot of trouble. I found a purse full of coin. It was dropped by a merchant who had hurriedly brushed by me as I purchased my daily bread. I reached down to pick up the purse, to return to the owner but he had disappeared. I tried to search for him in the crowd, but a guard mistook me for a purse snatcher. I suppose it wasn’t his fault. I had never seen a bag of gold as filed as the one I held that day. The guard held my hand in the air and loudly declared me as a thief. The purse was returned to its rightful owner and I was brought to the jarl’s court. I pled guilty that day, pleading for the jarl’s mercy. The typical punishment for thievery was the removal of a finger. But instead, I was sold to the slave market. Whether it was luck or fortune, I did not lose a finger that day. Anyways, that’s how I ended up shivering, in just a scrap towel, in a cage with a price tag on a piece of wood.
